Monday Morning Mosaic

For farmers May is planting season
For all of us it is a gift of grace and blossom-glory!

Sometimes, when our feet and hearts hurt
we get distracted by the dirt of life and love
but no matter what, we are in the care of the Giver
...the blossom but the bloom before the fruit;
The fruit, the fortune of harvest!
Nurtured and nourished, tossed and tested
by many a sunbeam and gale!

Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
Eccles.11:4

Laughter leaves us feeling nourished
Longing drains delight
Kind words gladden and encourage
Harsh words crush and bite

Love is patient and forgiving
Others-ward inclined
Not intent on shallow living
With self first in mind

Hope is more than bread for hunger
Hope is for the soul
It is like a steadfast anchor
Where doubt’s billows roll

Failure makes us feel like quitting
Success makes us smile
Though the struggle is faith-gritting
God makes worth earth’s while

Heaven, beyond comprehension
Waits if faith endures
Hell should seize sober attention
Devious are its lures

Life was never a gift granted
To be a joyride
Immortality-implanted
Mortal dust is tried

Worship keeps us meek and thankful
Worry binds and blinds
Pray each day love’s flame will kindle
Heart, soul, strength and mind

Life is laughter, longing, hunger
Gain and loss's pains
Life is never growing younger
As its charter wanes

God is love; He never leaves us
His Word, firm and true
Is the Light HE IS, to lead us
Till this life is through

Monday Muse for All-Week Dues...

Loving

Lord, may our simple service be
To love with kind humility
To show in every way we can
Our love for You
Through loving our fellowman

Glad

Not with what I wish I had
Nor with ‘if’ or ‘when’s vague plan
But to serve with a heart so glad
With what I have
Right where I am

Willing

Not for specific size or shape of task
But simply for willingness, Lord, I ask

Then, if I trust You, whatever the call
No task will be too great or small

Worthy

We are not all called
To a grand, noble quest
But we are all called
To give our best

And if our best
Is all we bring
Each quest will be
A grand, noble thing

Trusting

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
Our understanding sees but in part
Only God knows what is in store
So we should choose to trust Him more

Perseverance

Life is race
And a race, my friend
Is not won in the middle
But always, at the end

So, runner, be humble
Lest, caught off guard
We decide, as we stumble
Trying hard is too hard

Look well, fellow-athlete
For the winners are they
Not of smooth, swift beginnings
But who run faithfully, all the way

Worship

Not bloated blather of lip-art
But worship with work-hands and heart

***

More than pompous word-parades
Or loud charades of show
But gladness for the day God made
And His grace whereby we go

***

Who knows what this week
Will bring to you and me
Still, Lord, help us seek
To live thankfully

Happy Monday!

The More We Live and Learn

The more we live the more we learn
The more we learn we see
How much remains for us to learn
Whoever we may be

The more we live the more we learn
To live right where we are
Because the future soon is past
And never very far

The more we live the more we learn
To honestly admit
How very little we full-know
Of what we thought we did

© Janet Martin

...but this one thing we desire to learn and know more and more
There is none like You, Lord!

Psalm 86:8-13

 Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.
For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.
Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me;...

Monday Morn Musing...

Brash, brutal barbs test and attempt to dismantle our hope
But when we fold its care in prayer He kindly helps us cope

Hurtful, hungering hollows are so hard to satisfy
Without the love of God; He loves from springs that never dry

The cruelty of selfish expectation blights our boast
How sad to forfeit happiness because we love Self most

Wrath swipes a smile and turns its gladsome would-be joy to tears
Tis not in grand acclaim but simple act that fills our years

Life tosses toil and trouble like a test across our way
We would be wise to seek the counsel of our God today

…for it is not what we may think that orders our hand

Monday Musings while Cross-country Skiing

Life does not ask
From any man
But this; to do
The best he can

***

Fulfillment comes each day we live
Not by what we amass, but give

***

It is not those without visual sight
Who are truly and dubiously blind
But those who seek without delight
For things they never find

***

I searched for joy
And it found me
When I learned to live
Thankfully

***

We all are human
And must admit
That the best of us
Are hardly fit
To point and judge
Of us, the worst
We ought to examine
Ourselves first

***

Sometimes you try to tell me how you feel
Forgive me for not listening
Now, how I long to reach to you and steal
The un-shed tear sadly glistening…

***

Don’t sugar-coat the truth or lies
Both are immune to its disguise

***

Our children are taught
Not just by what they’re told
They learn with keen perception
By what they behold
