Summer Getaway...

Brush of breezes tickles treetops
Rush of ripples sighs
Ruffling sheen of silver-green
Against azure skies

Sunbeam-frazzled stars bedazzle
Diamond-studded lake
Shriek of gull and children lull
Dreamers half-awake

Catch of phrases, laughing faces
Sand between tanned toes
Sailors, surfers, strollers, loafers
Sea-song ebbs and flows

Pages linger between fingers
Book-worlds bob and blur
Beach umbrellas bloom, reds, yellas,
Waves-swells melt and slur

Beauty teases, duty eases
Its grip on today
Clocks forgiven, dock-end heaven
Summer getaway

Of Empty Beaches...and Love

another Sonnet...

Across the canvas of this little day
The purple of fall’s waning hour creeps
As we recall the cerulean deeps
Of summer where life’s tender echoes splay

The sea rushes across the quiet beach
Where shrieks of children-laughter tunes our thought
Enlarging the expanse of what is not
And what remains forever out of reach

To love, and then let go is love’s great test
For what we truly love we never own
Yet, if we love we’ll never be alone
When time extends its hand with love's request

I hold you close in spite of what I know
God, give me strength when it’s time to let go

Heaven on Earth

I know that heaven is out of earthly reach
But I think heaven on earth is a beach
Where the streets are paved with the sand and the sun
And on its fair avenues happy children run
I’ve heard the music, how sweet it is
Tuned perfection hummed by wind and waves
Blissful haven from daily demand
I could live forever in the sun and the sand
If I were an angel I would fly away
Where the tide washes up in a crystal spray
Yes, I know heaven is out of reach
But I’ve had a foretaste of its bliss on a beach
