Real-ity Check!

In a perfect world we would never need to remember...
But pray we never forget
for History forgotten is History repeated!

(photos from one of the memorial parks we visited; this one at the Port of Sydney)

That was real blood and mud and tears
That stabbed their teeth and eyes
So we can kiss curls
Of very real boys and girls
And sing them sweet lullabies

That was real fear and fire that burned
At the cost of a nation’s sons
So the future could stand
With a dream in their hand
Not the dread of loaded guns

That was real love and life that lay
‘neath the splay of smoke and sky
So this plot of loam
That we call home
Could raise freedom’s banner high

That was real horror; a glimpse of hell
Where the shell of bombs still stains
The fields and streets
Where commerce competes
On the ashes of what remains

That was real Now that shaped history
And the crosses of those who gave all
Where none have the ‘right’
With Freedom’s hind-sight
To pillage Past’s scar-stricken hall

That was real cost; where the price of war
Proves freedom is never free
And each drop we sip
From its Cup that we tip
Should foster gratuity

To the Trailblazers...That Were and Are

Here is where we live
Where brave hearts fought to free the land
Where we lie and count stars and night
Or dare to dream dreams big and grand

Here is where we live
Their hardship, happiness and need
Cultivated Inheritance
They cleared the fields where we plant seed

Here is where we live
Homes dot the counterpane of years
In towns and countryside, commerce
Conceived by their blood-sweat-prayers-tears

Here is where we live
And place our foot and fingerprints
To circumstance with our response
That soon becomes Inheritance

Of History and Footprints~

By dusk the day's traces were washed from the beach...

They come and then they go
Like footprints in the sand or snow
But still they guide us faithfully
By what we learn through history

To stop our eyes and ears
Against life’s past or future fears
Is to repeat oft, hopelessly
Those lessons taught in history

Soon Time will wash away
The visible steps of today
Yet, we are wise to pause and see
Their lessons sealed in history

“Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.”
Edmund Burke

Just read Heb. 11. Feeling discouraged? What great testimonies of faith and endurance we are reminded of in this chapter!

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Heb. 12:1

Blessed Assurance
