Knowledge, Too Wonderful For Me

This morning the news of the second one of our children needing to replace
the transmission on their vehicles, reminds us,
in this world we will have (expensive) trouble...
but we have a faithful Helper in times of need
to trust day by day...

Ps.46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble...

2 Pet.3:18
But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever!
 Amen.

The God who grants countless visual marvels
authors faith's far more awesome and Invisible
marvels/anchors of the soul!
Hallelujah!

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”

Knowing that You love us, Lord
Knowing that You keep Your word
Knowing that Your word is true
Anchors our hope in You

Knowing that Your no and yes
Leads in paths of righteousness
Comforts us through trouble’s test
Knowing You know what is best

Knowing, when our own strength fails
Your sufficient grace prevails
Cheers us on from day to day
Knowing that You know the way

Knowing someday, face to face
Will faith’s darksome glass erase
Helps us in all that we do
To keep our eyes on You

Knowing that You hear and care
For the heart outpoured in prayer
Humbles every word and deed
Knowing You supply our need

Knowing You know every part
Every intent of the heart
The cross suffered by your Son

Knowing, that as we believe
And salvation’s gift receive
Joy will crown this old world's woe
Knowing that You love us so

Ps.139:5-6
You hem me in behind and before;
You have laid Your hand upon me.
6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

More Than Enough For Me...

(beautiful scripture at the end of the above video)

This morning's poem is inspired in part after visiting my cousin yesterday,
in a long-term care facility. He has been afflicted for many years with MS.
His family bears a very hard cross!
Please, if you remember, keep them in your prayers...

More info here...
We cannot comprehend God's higher ways but
plead for an unshakeable knowledge of his perfect love
for all of us!

***

Give me knowledge of Jesus Christ that naught can shake or move
Of He who humbly sacrificed Himself, His love to prove
Fill me with wonder every day, that He who made all things
Surrendered to death’s crude display and cruelest sufferings
To bring salvation once for all to all who call his name
And to redeem us from the Fall that brought Adam to shame

He gave us access to His promises, to satisfy
Hunger and thirst with righteousness only He can supply
Then, may the joy and peace He gives thus transcend everything
With the knowledge that Jesus lives and death has lost its sting
And nothing in this sin-cursed place can ever dearer be
Than the knowledge that by His grace Jesus has ransomed me

Then give me no knowledge but this; He loves me without end
No matter what may be amiss, He is a faithful Friend
On Him I lean, to Him I cry, He, trustworthy and true
Tries my reason with His reply, yet what more can I do
But yield my mortal will to He who paid sin’s penalty
This knowledge of His love will be more than enough for me

6Seek the LORD while He may be found;
call on Him while He is near.
7Let the wicked man forsake his own way
and the unrighteous man his own thoughts;
let him return to the LORD,
that He may have compassion,
and to our God,
for He will freely pardon.
8“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways,”
declares the LORD.
9“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so My ways are higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts...

Unplumbed Knowledge (Too Wonderful For Me)

Inspired by Psalm 139
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
 Psalm 139:6

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. v.1

Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me
and lead me in the way everlasting. v.23-24

There is no fooling You
Lord, you know all our ways
While we were knitted in the womb
You beheld all our days
While we were being wrought
You knew us every one
Before a thought became a thought
Before a deed was done
Your knowledge hemmed us in
Behind, beside, before
Beneath the shadow of your Wing
You keep us evermore

Lord, we are fearfully
And wonderfully made
You know the place intimately
Where thought and choice are weighed
You search and know each heart
Nothing is hid from you
For you fashioned our inmost part
Before one breath we drew
Then, search where you have searched
Lest wicked ways remain
Lest craftiness of pride is perched
Where worship is made vain

Lord, lead us in the way
Of everlasting life
Shield us from the cunning buffet
Of vanity’s vain strife
But purify our hearts
To praise you more and more
Your goodness and mercy imparts
All we are thirsting for
Your thoughts; what preciousness
To think that they should be
Of us, oh, Lord, such knowledge is
Too wonderful for me

To Know Makes All the Difference (for the Unknown)

Who knows what Come-what-may waits to unfold today...
(well!! one unknown unfolded already;
An unexpected day off due to two sick tots)

Here are a few fond frames of yesterday

Side note on photo below: while we 'swang' we sang every song we could think of...
including what might be the longest version of Old MacDonald's Farm ever known 😂

The Knowing keeps dark deeps of Come-What-May in tender check
Morning unmoors the bark of Day with renewed call and beck
Where none can see what waits to be, but He who spreads the skies
Where no sudden calamity His will can compromise
(or, where no sudden calamities can take Him by surprise)

His promises are like a bulwark where dread’s fathoms roll
To know God keeps his every Word comforts the fainting soul

Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Beginning of Knowledge...

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Prov.1:7

I have been pondering the above verse for the past week;
how fear of God or lack thereof, affects every single decision we make!
Then, lo and behold, it was the key verse in today's Daily Bread Devotion!

All things were made by Him...

The beginning of knowledge is not by some college taught
But as we meet God through his Word and revere His commands
For what starts with a niggle in our hearts or in our thought
Will soon wiggle its way into our mouth, or feet and hands

The beginning of knowledge does not age-discriminate
We are all never too old to discover something new
Our Father up in Heaven is a God of love, not hate
We prove how much we fear Him by the things we say and do

The beginning of knowledge is to fear the Lord, our God
Then tremble at His word and reverence His holy Name
Do not stand in the way that wicked wanderers applaud
The fool that loathes wisdom's instruction will be brought to shame

The beginning of knowledge is to recognize our place
Beneath the grace of God who forgives and sets sinners free
The fool does not tremble to think of 'someday face to face'
The wise seek godly counsel with fear and humility

Janet Martin

Prov.3:7
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Proverbs 14:26-27
He who fears the LORD is secure in confidence,
and his children shall have a place of refuge.
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
turning a person from the snares of death.

Proverbs 10:27
The fear of the LORD prolongs life,
but the years of the wicked will be cut short.

Proverbs 11:14
For lack of guidance, a nation falls,
but with many counselors comes deliverance.

Isa.66:4-6
So I will choose their punishment and I will bring terror upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and no one listened. But they did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.” 5You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD: “Your brothers who hate you and exclude you because of My name have said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified that we may see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.” 6Hear the uproar from the city; listen to the voice from the temple! It is the voice of the LORD, repaying His enemies what they deserve!…

What If Only Sunny Weather...

Whether its gray skylines or headlines
remember, the sun/Son is always near

Up and up the sun is climbing
Though the dawn is dark and gray
The Creator’s perfect Timing
Will drive brooding clouds away

What we see is but a little
We cannot behold the sum
While we are still in the middle
Of what is yet to become

So, when morning skies are bleary
And horizons bleak and gray
Keep the faith, when day is dreary
The sun is not far away

Imagine if on that morning
When we meet HIM face to face
We had never known the yearning
For a better time and place

Take a moment to consider
When we reach life’s solemn end
What if Jesus is a stranger
Not a Comforter and Friend

What if only sunny weather
Blinded faith's eyes to the Day
When time's ever-thinning tether
Breaks its ties and falls away

Up and up we all are climbing
Though for now clouds may prevail
Faith trusts in the perfect timing
Of a Son that does not fail

2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life
through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and goodness....

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue;
and to virtue, knowledge;

and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,
perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them,
they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive
in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure.
For if you practice these things you will never stumble,

We live in an age of greatest educated ignorance ever,
as Higher Education Institutions disregard God...
Here Paul is urging believers to increase
their Higher Education in
the only knowledge that can make us wise;
the knowledge of Lord Jesus Christ...

If indeed they have escaped the corruption of the world
through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
only to be entangled and overcome by it again,
their final condition is worse than it was at first.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.
Amen.

A Long Series Of Efforts...

"His poetry, regarded as a whole is a long series of efforts to achieve this end."
From James Cappon’s commentary on Bliss Carmen’s personal quest regarding the poetry he wrote.

the phrase 'a long series of efforts' kinda gathered up
some dangling frays/phrases in my head and heart today!

Write what you know ‘they’ say, so I
Ponder what I have learned and such
To realize, as time goes by
My boast of knowledge isn’t much
But still, in all that I’ve been through
I guess I’ve learned a thing or two

…beauty is easy to believe
A heart of love, hard to achieve
Until, we see with humble bent
How e’very breath is Mercy lent
And everything we strive toward
Is but a blessing from the Lord

Contentment none can hold in hands
The heart must mine its golden sands
To find, with kind humility
The tender joy of you and me
Where gloating gods of selfish pride
Are never fully satisfied

...and life is always, in the end
A long series of efforts, friend
Then it befits us to be kind
For we’re all first-timers, half-blind
And no one gets a trial run
Before the real race is begun

The Showcase of sunrise and set
Will ever sighs of awe beget
And no artist’s brush can surpass
The perfection of heaven’s class
But earth-bound students look and learn
From He who owns the praise we earn

...and for what holds our high esteems
We always find the time, it seems
No matter how hard we pretend
Our true colors show in the end
Because choice is the voice that tells
The truth we veil in crafty shells

All that we know, save Word of God
Is subject to Time’s outstretched rod
Where change insists upon its law
But cannot shake The Truth, aha
The Ultimate that we all crave
Does not lead to, but through the grave

Harsh words will hurt at any age
And books are more than ink on page
Then those who write should recognize
The extent of their smitten sighs
And hold accountable the jot
That has the power to sway thought

…and thought is the author of touch
And touch becomes the act and such
…oh, such is life, act hinged to act
A binge of fantasy and fact
Where life is always in the end
A long series of efforts, friend

…and who/Who we do it for will be
Our god/God for all eternity

© Janet Martin

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;
all things have been created through him and for him.
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Col.1:15-17

Because Of How Little We Know...

Books filled with knowledge tell us only so much
Life’s day-to-day college hinged to time’s cooled touch
Where retrospect’s cast can put on quite a show
And re-impact us with how little we know

…where we, well-acquainted with years full of ‘learn’
Depend on hindsight for the wisdom we earn
Trip-slip, fumble-stumble yields experience
Teaching us to live-love with more reverence/patience

…and not take for granted that we will behold
The seeds that we planted turn from green to gold
And always remember, by God’s grace we go
Then trust Him because of how little we know

© Janet Martin

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Prov.3:5-6

A re-run because its message is needful every day!
