They Talk About Mermaid Tattoos

Ending an era with this little gal today;
she is soon to be a proud Big Sister
(She doesn't know that she is the latest owner of a piece of Janet's heartπŸ’–)

But oh, what a perfectly-precious farewell day
with two of my favorite little gal-palsπŸ’•

It doesn't look like it here but oh, the conversation...πŸ˜…πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

They talk about Mermaid tattoos
And Minions Bubble-bath and things
Like, how when thoap getth in your eyeth/soap gets in your eyes
It ‘really-really-very-thtingth’ /stings
And nothing is impossible
In a world not yet four years old
Still oblivious to the pull
Of Bygone’s oceanic hold

Their dollies board yoga-mat ships
Where giggling captains shout ahoy
And take the silliest of trips
To snack-time’s high-five, five-star joy
While we find life a gladder charge
In the delightful company
Of Darling Innocence at large
And pure and precious as can be

How unaware-ly they arrange
A gallery of mementos
Where nothing in the world can change
The pictures that these halls enclose
While heartstrings twang and tangle, oh
Where hold-and-letting-go soft-spars
With laughter-spangles lilting glow
And a sweet blur of salty stars

They stir a thankful melody
For pink-frock perfect happiness
For little girls, still fancy-free
Where childhood is earth’s heaven-ness
Before the slick wink of an eye
That turns us into hoarder’s of
Artwork that money cannot buy
Masterpieces entitled 'Love'

This sunny-deck tea-party was not just to say farewell
but to honor a birthday girl as well!

Happy 22nd Birthday, Victoria!

The little girls watched as I wrapped Victoria's birthday gift!
Granddaughter was SO excited!!
I reminded them that it's a secret so don't tell her!!
and they gave me their solemn word
...until, over come with excitement for her auntie's birthday
Grand daughter blurted out
'you have a gift and it's your two favorite-est books!πŸ˜‚πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

A Sweet Endeavor

However God has gifted each of us, may our desire be to
use the gift to bring before Him an offering of praise;
'a sweet aroma to the Lord!'
a phrase repeated over and over into today's scripture reading...
...a sweet aroma to the Lord
Lev. 1:9,13,17, Lev.2:2, Lev.3:5,16

(as sweet as two little girls having a tea-partyπŸ’–)

This flight that fuels greeting and farewell will soon adjourn
The sightlines of Today soon snuffed as Time is borne away
Then in the light of this, as we weather life’s twist and turn
May we yearn all the more to trust the Giver of today
Whose mercy, new each morning is sufficient, come what may

Rouses in some a solemn sense of Matthew twenty-four
Earth’s stage is set for prophecy’s fulfillment to unfold
The wage awaiting one and all is pounding on a door
Like storm-charged surf resounding as it seethes against time’s shore

This beckoning-before-The-Reckoning, kindles dawn’s flare
Where deception and rejection thrive like a vile disease
As promotions of ignorance, like oceans of despair
Roll over sin-seared consciences with terrifying ease
As if each moment does not groan with God’s atoning pleas

This gift, this gracious gift granted by God’s grace, kind and good
And truth that does not shift and love no knowledge can explain
Is worth the whys and wherefores of mercy misunderstood
God’s word assures believers that our faith is not in vain
(though not all who say ‘Lord, Lord’ will Heaven’s reward attain)

…but those who do the will of God, who trust Him and obey
Whose offering of praise is a sweet-smelling sacrifice
Though scoffers scoff, fooled by the serpent’s ‘did God really say?’
High minded and unholy in thinking darkened by vice

Oho, this flight that fuels greeting and farewell is swift
Its sightlines tune a volatile vista of numbered days
Thus, in the light of this may we embrace its fleeting gift
And never handle thoughtlessly that which ought to amaze
And fill every endeavor with sweet offerings of praise

Sweet Little Girl

With permission from her mommy,
sharing a picture of Birthday Girl!

Last night after she left  my intent was to make a little
mommy's helper (or Janet's helper) apron,
which led to a tiny apron for Dolly
as well as a book-bag and dolly-blanket!
Her delight is the sweetest thank-you I could ever wish forπŸ’

This morning she saw a picture of a donut and she remarked
"I like donuts!"
which inspired the birthday treat...
Sputniks/Timbits! (recipe at the end of this post)

The sparkle of a sunbeam
The blush of summer’s rose
The pleasure of a daydream
Goodnight-kiss on the nose
The gladness of a giggle
The treasure of a pearl
The best of all things beautiful
Is you, sweet little girl

The joy of June in winter
The awe of innocence
Your pure and carefree chatter
Teaches the heart to dance
You fill the world with Happy
Rainbows and stars unfurl
In the delightful company
Of you, sweet little girl

...a frilly, bitty bum-kin
A silly-me-oh-my
Princess without a pumpkin
A pretty butterfly
Tea-party guest of honor
A ballerina twirl
Life is such a charming wonder
With you, sweet little girl

You bring a bit of heaven
To earth; you make hope sing
And each day worth the living
With the loveliness you bring
You are a darling angel
Halo of hugs and curls
We are most blessed and so grateful
For you, sweet little girls

For Kids and Parents (of all ages)

We make laundry,

Lots of messes
Happiness’s
Finest parts
We make parents
Laugh and lament
We melt popsicles

And hearts

We make Ordinary
Sacred

We make headaches ...

We are loud
We make parents
Lose their patience
We make parents
Feel so proud

We make dishes
And the wishes
Of mommies
And daddies come true
We make noise
And joys
And sorrows
Cause that's what
Girls and boys do

We make sticky
Hugs and kisses
We make adults
Children too
We make everything
So worth it
With soft, chubby,
‘I wuv/love you’

Did I mention
We make messes
We make parents
Find their knees
While we make
Best Happiness-es
While we make
Best Memories

© Janet Martin

I wrote this with one on my lap
Squeezing me with hugs and kisses and one
Beside me who, after I read
Part of the poem
pleaded non-stop
‘ple-e-e-se may I have a melty popsicle?
I love melty popsicles, ple-e-e-e-ase!

Sometimes ya’ just gotta
Strike while the iron is hot!

Now let’s see if we have any popsicles!
Yes!

So they had those while I posted this,
then Little boy climbed back up on my chair
put his arms around my neck and right now he
is hiccupping loudly in my earπŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡
(must be that popsicle:)

Little Blessings~

For all grand flings that man may boast
It's little things that charm us most...

...for nothing makes us feel like kings
Like life's best wealth; its little things!

Meta-ball-ism

Sometimes I almost stagger beneath the intensity of flashbacks as Time almost repeats itself...
A Glimpse at our celebration of the last day of summer...
(kinda like it used to be when the little ones were my own)

Ball bounces;
Beauty is boyish and boisterous
Curl flounces;
Cutie is girlish and sweet
Mom announces
Time for supper
Door slams,
Floor rings with hymns of bare feet
Time is a dog nipping at their heels
Gladness is knowing how heaven on earth feels
Ball bounces;
Boy is nowhere to be seen
Curl flounces;
Girl is seventeen

© Janet Martin

I was looking for an old post of Matt bouncing the basket-ball but I couldn't find it :(
that's the worst thing about this blog,
even with labels it is sometimes/often impossible to find an oldie!

When God Made Little Girls...

...and as my girls grow up I realize that every big girl needs to hear it too!

God, did you take from your most lovely strings
Of blue from the sky, rainbow, butterfly’s wings,
Of pretty blush petals and pure, priceless pearl
Then put them together to make a wee girl?

God, did you gather wisp of hair angel-spun
Willow-sigh whimsy, gold-grin from the sun
As it sparkles on water, did their laughter unfurl?
And then did You say, ‘This will be little girls’?

And God, did you splash heaven’s kiss on their nose
Or place twinkling stars in their eyes and their toes
Did roses and rubies and silver mist swirl
As You wove Your wonder in each little girl?

…and God, did you smile as You chose each fair thing
Knowing what joy and delight they would bring
As we glimpse Your beauty in tumbles and twirls
In dear, dreaming, dancing, darling little girls?

© Janet Martin

This summer we’ve had the pleasure of having a number of Victoria’s friends over for a few days at a time. Many I have known since they were babies, and my heart still glows to the core as it did back then, for little giggling girls are surely a glimpse of Heaven!

The tent sits in the yard…empty. But oh, what fun to dash back and forth through the pouring rain with thoughts that yes, this year THEY WOULD sleep in it no matter what! (see here) Thirty minutes later they were back, certain they heard thunder (wink) maybe, but I don’t think so. Besides, the gummi-bears, chips and pop were all gone. What were they going to do but listen to the rain on the tent;)?

Child...

There can be no shadow of regret with you,
Perfection lent to earth,
Heaven in your smile,
You evoke in me a measure of worth
You are a child

With your hand in mine nothing else matters,
I am complete for a time,
Let the world seek its fortune
I have found mine
In a child

Janet~

My daughter has two friends here for a sleep-over.
Camping, actually.
5:00 p.m.-set up tent
6:00 p.m. supper inside because it was too windy for a camp-fire.
7:00 p.m. blow up air mattress, stock tent with sleeping bags, treats, drinks, teddies, blankets…
7:30 p.m. Oh no! If we want a fire we need to move the tent! The wind is blowing directly toward it!
7:45 p.m. We have moved the tent and it is being reassembled!
8:00 p.m. Wind has died down so ‘mom’ starts the camp-fire…
8:30 p.m. It’s getting dark. Get flashlight.
8:45 p.m. Fire is ready to roast marshmallows!
8:48 p.m. 3 marshmallows roasted aka burnt! and devoured.
8:49 p.m. Discover marshmallow in hair!
8:50 p.m. getting darker!
8:51 p.m. Tummy-aches and big eyes!
8:52 p.m. ‘mom’ suggests that if anyone does not want to sleep in the tent she will flatten the couches downstairs into beds
9:00 p.m. 3 little girls downstairs on couch feeling much better!:) Tent…empty except for the air mattress.
9:30 p.m. ‘mom’ puts in one of her favorite movies and they loved it! Curly Top (Shirley Temple) ‘mom’ becomes one of them for awhile.
It is now 11:30 p.m. little girls are laughing, giggling, and discussing…TEACHERS!
Methinks it is going to be a ‘late breakfast’ morning…for 3 little ‘campers’.

Ten

There you were…
All arms and legs and giggles
And fanciful

There you were…
Looking at the world
Through the eyes of beautiful

There you were…
Weaving a trail
Of sunshine on this rainy day

There you were…
Bare-feet… and pony-tail
In wild disarray

There you were…
Sweeter than the top
Of a blueberry muffin

There you were…
Sun-dress, flip-flops
Aren’t you somethin’?

There you were…
The most precious creature
In the whole, wild world

You are ten
And you’re so beautiful
…little girl

Janet!

Victoria had a friend sleep over last night…
They just padded through the kitchen…
…two leggy little squirts
of sunshine, giggles…and just awake hair:)

Thank-you, God.

No Such Thing

There's no such thing as too much love
Too many kisses, hugs or prayers
and it is impossible to have
One too many teddy-bears

Janet

Mom; Victoria, we NEED to get rid of some teddy-bears!
There are just too many!
Victoria: Mom, there's no such thing as too many teddy bears.

(Tonight she was complaining that it's too hot to sleep.
When I came up too see if this was true
I found her....covered in teddy bears:)

Sweet Little Girl

Let me hold your hand a little longer
Lose myself in your sweet smile
Little hands make mothers stronger
Smiles brighten a weary mile

Far too quickly you are stolen
From the carefree childhood mead
Far too quickly dreams are calling
Eagerly their voice you heed

Sweet little girl, you are my sunshine
And your giggles are my song
You’re a treasure, briefly mine
Before life carries you along

Sweet little girl, a breath of heaven
Sent to grace the earth below
What a privilege I’ve been given
Just to love and watch you grow

Janet~

Tonight Victoria and I enjoyed a very special night
out together, just the two of us...
well with approx. 50 other mothers and daughters:))
It was a great evening with the focus being
simply that we are all special creations of God.
While the message was somewhat directed to these girls (ages 10-14:)
I'm sure it was also very much intended as gentle reminders for us moms. We are all special in God's eyes!
Parents, here are a few activities we did tonight that you may like to try with your own sons and daughters.
1. Make a list of things you would like to do together this summer, just the two of you. You should each have at least ten things. (child and parents each creates a list)
2. Write 10 compliments about each other for each other.
3. Draw an outline of a person and pretend its you and write what you like about the way God made you!
4. write up a 'no name calling' pledge and sign it. (You 'Klutz' IS name calling:)
Name calling in any shape or form is hurtful!

After the activities there was FOOD!

I have resolved to do these activities with EACH one of my children.

Dreamer

Once, not so very long ago
T’was I who would sit here, you know
Bare-feet dangling in the air
Best friends came in teddy bears
How was I, pray tell, to know
Just how fast the years would flow?

Once when I was just like you
I could be a dreamer too
But time can be a ruthless stream
Tearing from the heart, a dream
I smile to see you sitting there
Once I was you, without a care

My Life.....

You were little once
Tiny enough to fit inside of me
Yet big enough to become
The best part of my life

Now, with casual indifferences
And mindless thank-you’s
You gather up my life
And walk away

I Didn't Know......

I didn’t know when I was a little girl
Yellow-haired and big blue-eyed
And I would sit and stare at the world
Wonderful and wide
Wishing I would grow a little quicker
I didn’t know then that youth is a flicker,
A flash
And then it is gone
A splash
In the river, surging on
I thought time was a freight train steady and slow
An all day rain with no where to go
When I was a girl........
Oh, I didn’t know….

And I didn’t know when I was young
That childhood is a song too quickly sung
Or that love is not just a fuzzy birthday card
But that love can hurt and love can be hard...........
And dreams are a luxury afforded by youth
Before we are troubled with life’s bolder truth
And I didn’t know as I gazed past today
How quickly tomorrow is yesterday
And the lips that sigh and the feet that dance
Would soon realize that youth is a glance
Swept away in Time’s vast, misty sea
And dreams are a day that used to be……….

And I didn’t know as I sat rocking you, my dear baby
How fast you would try to be a lady
And I want to tell you about a short sweet ride
As you gaze into the blue; dreaming about being a bride
But I would never snatch your dreams away
Because soon your tomorrow will be yesterday
And you’ll sing a song in the twilight’s glow
About being young and what 'I didn't know.......
When I was a girl, yellow-haired and blue-eyed
Staring out at a world so wonderful and wide………'

Janet~

Picture: my third birthday holding
my 'fuzzy' birthday card.....
( I know, it's hard to tell:)

Love, Joy and Peace.....

Love, joy and peace
Just a little more of this
Then this world’s fighting would cease
Our cares would be less and good will would increase
If we all put to practice more love, joy and peace

Love, joy and peace
Just a little more of this
And there would be a release
From the cold cruel wars and life’s bitterness
If we all gave a little more love, joy and peace

I keep telling myself I’m going to
Take a break from writing…….
Then ‘little girl’ hangs up an innocent painting……..

‘Out of the mouths of babes…..’

Let’s REMEMBER…..not only at Remembrance Day……
Or Christmas, but every day all year through!

Every Night

We pray together every night
And then she hugs me.....
.....long and tight
And as I bend to tuck her in
She beckons as she hugs again.....
I wish you'd stay right here with me
Cause you're so cozy, don't you see?
There's room for three to snuggle here
...you and me and my big bear
I dubiously eye the other nine bears
who have taken up residence in bed with her
And she insists my reply is ALWAYS the same....
'I think it would get a little squishy' I say
Ah, what would we do without little girls?
Surely they are the angels of this world

No Idea............

She had no idea as I held her tonight
How perfectly God made her fit just right
….....her childish love melting into every part
Of the sorrow and anguish deep in my heart
I had no idea when she climbed onto my knee
How much comforting her would comfort me

~Janet~
