Of Steadfast Cheer

Happy February!
 The month famous for the day that celebrates
what we hopefully celebrate every day;

Morning By Morning-Pat Barret (feat, Mack Brock)

Then do not worry ‘bout today
God is a ‘help me’ prayer away
In every circumstance of need
He will our helpless heart-cry heed
Should sorrow try our happiness
He does not leave us comfortless
Should fear threaten courage to steal
Should faith fall prey to sight’s appeal
Should temptation’s enticing stance
Lure us from promises God grants
Should idle words and prideful thoughts
Turn stepping stones to stumbling blocks
Should hope be inclined to despair
Beneath love’s pressing weight of care
Should Want be wont to disobey
Turning alas, to our own way
Should trust grow weary in the fight
To cling to what is good and right
Or, as we face the enemy
Forget ‘not I, but Christ in me
Or should confusion author doubt
As to Who life is from, about
Or worship bow to lesser gods
That human natured dust/lust applauds
Should trouble its dark shadow cast
The love of God remains steadfast
In whatever we face today
He is a ‘help me’ prayer away
He is a faithful Friend indeed
A Helper in our time of need
A Father to the fatherless
A God who keeps His promises
Hope’s anchor in the storms of life
Joy’s strength amidst opposing strife
Contentment’s gladness undeterred
In all who delight in His word
Where, though we are the Tempter’s prey
God is a ‘help me’ prayer away
What comfort, kindness, peace to cheer
For God is always 'help me' near

Heb.13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money
and be content with what you have,
because God has said,
 “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Rom.8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers,
nor things present nor things to come,
nor height nor depth,
nor any other created thing,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Let's Pray

Unrest+ war +sickness+ sorrow,+ slander =suffering
Suffering +surrender = prayer

oh, so much to pray about in this broken down, sinful, old world!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Phil.4:6

What are these words that we lift up
These thoughts expressed in groan
Where the heart like a broken cup
Is poured before God’s throne

What are these stutters that take flight
(But not to who knows where)
To find within the darkness, light
And hope, lest we despair

To hear the Shepherd’s gentle voice
And feel His tender care
And cause believers to rejoice
Why, my dear, it is prayer

Please Pray! Faith's Unfathomable First-resort

Please pray…often follows our heart-cries because life’s hurts are too hard to bear alone!
Sometimes we plead in confidence, our secret sorrows, sometimes it is a world-wide cry.
The latest plea comes from my poet-friend in Las Vegas .
She pleads 'please pray for my city today!'
after yesterday’s shooting.

Please pray…oh God and so we do
You know when life is cruel and hard
Thou, Only God, holy and true
Your outstretched hands are Calv’ry-scarred

Please pray, oh Lord and so we do
To He who hears each earnest plea
For no one is a stranger to
The One who died for you and me

Please pray, then we with fumbling lips
Trust thee to decipher our groan
Where prayer is like a battleship
That transports whispers to Your throne

Please pray, ah, this no last resort
Save to the one who does not know
The faithful mercy of our Lord
And daily grace whereby we go

Please pray for hearts of meek belief
Our God of love the same today
As when He, beneath thorn-pierced grief
For faith and hope opened The Way

Psalm 102
A prayer of an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord.

Hear my prayer, Lord;
    let my cry for help come to you.
Do not hide your face from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.
For my days vanish like smoke;
    my bones burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;
    I forget to eat my food.
In my distress I groan aloud
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake; I have become
    like a bird alone on a roof.
All day long my enemies taunt me;
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.
For I eat ashes as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears
10 because of your great wrath,
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;
    I wither away like grass.
12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;
    your renown endures through all generations.
13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion,
    for it is time to show favor to her;
    the appointed time has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear the name of the Lord,
    all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion
    and appear in his glory.
17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.
18 Let this be written for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:
19 “The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners
    and release those condemned to death.”
21 So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion
    and his praise in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship the Lord.
23 In the course of my life[b] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.
24 So I said:
“Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;
    your years go on through all generations.
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,
    and your years will never end.
28 The children of your servants will live in your presence;
    their descendants will be established before you.”

Time To Pray

 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
    he heard my cry for mercy.
 Because he turned his ear to me,
    I will call on him as long as I live.
Ps.116:1-2

With all this distraction, attraction, oh my
That spreads out its daily buffet
Sometimes it’s easy to understand why
We don’t take enough time to pray

With all of life’s coming and going and thus
That rallies to quicken the day
I think it behooves every one of us
To ponder how much time we pray

With all of the love that God grants faithfully
With all of the hope, help and care
I wonder how much less distressed we would be
If we spent more time with Him in prayer

Futile the bubble of darling daydreams
 What fort in trouble are they?
More, more than ever before it seems
The world needs more people who pray

The Lord does not forget or ever leave us
What comfort for our day to day
Oh, what a friend we have in Jesus
We should take more time to pray
