Oh, So Precious Three-Year-Old

This is the best birthday ever, said Miss Delighted Almost-three-year-old, (tomorrow)
over and over, especially after Pink Donut was set before her!
Dolly is part of EVERYTHING we do!!😘

After she blew out the candles she sat and looked at it without touching it!
What are you waiting for, I asked, puzzled.
'for you to get a knife to cut it, so you can have some too!'
and once again this almost-three-year-old almost-angel
left me speechless with joy💝💗

She: Would you like some tea?

Me: What kind is it?
She, without skipping a beat: Strawberry-bubblegum tea!
Me; Yum! I would love some!!😂💖

They drive us mildly wild with endless questionings of ‘why?’
While reviving the child in us that otherwise would die
A perfect mix of mischief and happy helper, so proud
They are so very darling and so very, very loud

They try last shreds of patience just before they melt our hearts
And make us cry with laughter at what innocence imparts
They teach us to look longer and walk slower than before
As we examine puddles, worms, bugs, leaves and so much more

They tug our hands and suddenly we feel so very small
Beside Pure Trust gazing up at us, not yet three feet tall
They steal our breath with sacred dues and aching happiness
And scatter in the wake of outgrown shoes, mess after mess

They sometimes make us wonder who is teaching who the most
While they serve cups of bubble-gum tea and marshmallow toast
They watch us closely, learning far, far more than they are told
My, how we love them; Sweet, smart, oh so precious three-years-old

Yesterday she served me a teeny-tiny cup of coffee
'You make the best coffee!" I said after a very noisy sip
'what do you put in it?!'
...and again, without a pause she answered
 'marshmallows!'😂😂😂

Three-year-old Teachers

PAD Challenge Day 3: For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Three (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem.

 I babysit two three-year-olds.
They always make my day!

You always make our day
Your innocence, care free
You teach us how to live in Now
Though you are only three

You teach us how to love
Without a second thought
And when you sing the world is spring
Our discontent forgot

You teach us how to laugh
No malice clouds your view
You do not will revenge or ill
Your skies are always blue

Dear three-year-old, you teach
Us to believe, not doubt
With grin and kiss we learn the bliss
Of what life is about

The Perfect Size

Too small for school
Too small to skate
Too small to stay up late
Too small for all
The things tall brothers
Do ‘til half-past eight

Too small to tie my shoes
Too small to reach
The up-high shelf
Too small to understand the news
Or read
All by myself

Too small to walk the dog
Too small to count
Past one-two-three
Too small to button buttons
Or zip zippers
Or pour tea

But I am the right size to lick
The spoons when
Mommy bakes and cooks
I fit just right
In daddy’s arms
To read my bed-time story-books

I'm the right size to play
With toys and
Sleep with teddy bears
Or jump in a Big pile of leaves
I’m not too small
To say my prayers

Or ride my bike
Or try to be like
My big brothers too
And oh, I am
The perfect size
For hugs and ‘I love you’

'Look, Janet', little guy grins with pride, 'I made 'I love you'

The little just-turned-three-guy I babysit (after being away for a few weeks) returned today, all smiles and sunshine!

Dear Little Children of Three

We fall in love with them constantly
Innocence coupled with mischievous glee
Carefree perfection and curiosity
Dear, little children of three

Sunshine spills from these eager tots
Wonderment fills their guile-less thoughts
Unhindered by living’s ‘what-are-nots’
Dear, little children of three

Flurry of chatter and childish kiss
Living each moment just as it is
Lord, give me faith as pure as this
Dear, little children of three

The little guy I baby-sit turns three today. I took him with me to pick up a few groceries.
When we told the cashier that one item is his ‘birthday treat, she asked him ‘how old?’ Without setting down his tub of ju-jubes he slowly and proudly popped up three fingers and grinned. INSTANT POPULARITY!

BUT…as I am writing this he just re-appeared. He is supposed to be napping! ‘not sleepy’ is his verdict…ah yes, those dear little children of three;))...right now he is waiting for the kids to come home from school...I told him 'any minute', and yes, here they are! Gotta go! There is a birthday to celebrate!
