If I Had Known...#5

If I had known so long ago
Life’s sage and timeless truth
How swiftly hours and minutes
Become days and years
I would have treasured more patiently…
Youth

If I Had Known...#4

If I had known
As our lips met
That your kiss would melt me so
Oh my darling,
you can bet...
I would have kissed you long ago...

If I Had Known...#3

If I had known that you heard
The careless words that I let slip
I would tried to bite my tongue
Or placed a hand upon my lip

If I had known as I shook your hand
That this would be the final time
I would have tried to remember
How your hand felt, holding mine

If I had known the words we spoke
Would be the words by which we part
I would have cherished them much more
And tucked them deep within my heart

Janet~

Yes, it’s true…I’m having a little fun with this phrase today…
It puts a little ‘flavor’ into tedious canning tasks…now you know!

A while ago I had some fun with the word combination ‘There is…’
And there is so much…or is it 'there are so many'…avenues the words ‘if I had known,
Could take…

Sad Oblivion...#2

If I had known the hill was bathed
By silver oceans from the moon
If I had known the gentle wind
Would compose so fine a tune…
If I had known the stars above
…as we lay upon the grass
Without a sound, would dazzle us
Dusted on a sea of glass
If I had known the night would be
The gentler moment of my day
Where nagging of anxiety
Amidst such bliss would melt away
If I had know the dusty lane
Wild-flower kissed would wind and gleam
And beckon lover’s there to stroll
On a highway to a dream
If I had known the grass would spread
Like diamond fields beneath our feet
I would not have gone to bed
And simply drifted off to sleep…

The Finish

Tis not the start of the race we applaud
Though we cheer the participant on
Tis as they cross the finish line
We clap and say ‘well done’

Many begin this race with hope
And good intentions too
But then become distracted
By a kinder avenue

It’s not easy to persevere
Fighting through wind and rain
But oh, how sad, if, at the end of life’s race
We have run in vain

Janet~

I remember my dad telling us this…
It’s not by how we begin that we will be remembered…
But by how we finish!

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Tim.4:7

If I Had Known...#1

My apologies to you
If I had known that you would come
Then I would have changed my plans
To make sure that I was home

I would have put the coffee on
Tidied up and swept the floor
You would not even need to knock
For I’d be waiting at the door

Then we would talk all afternoon
Beneath the old red-maple tree
Time would disappear too soon
If you came to visit me

My apologies to you
If I had known that you would come
I would have gladly changed my plans
And rushed to put the coffee on...:)

Janet~

Thank-you to all of you who drop by here
To visit…I appreciate each and every one of you.
Please have a coffee on me:)
God bless.

Beauty...

We are blessed…
Able to touch, taste or behold
Life’s most beautiful things
A cloud caressed
By whispers of gold
As twilight softly brings

…another day
To its swift end
We see the darkened sea
Silently splay
Across the sand
…of centuries

We touch within
Our heart of hearts
Things precious, sacred, dear
Where no one
Can share its part
Or know that it is there

I have tasted Beauty
Worn its smile
And clutched its pain
I have held it to me
For a while
But in vain

The power of
Love’s silent storm
Raging in the hidden deep
Is beauty in
Its rarest form
Glimpsed vaguely in the tears we weep…

Discovery

Look closely, my dear, look closely
Perhaps then you will see
There is much still left untouched
Inside of you and me

Look closely, my love, look closely
Oh, do not walk away
Love is never boring
Until there’s nothing left to say

Look closely, darling, look closely
Another moment slips
Over the hill while there is still
Desire on our lips

Look closely, my love, look closely
The sky is closing in
And all I want to do is kiss
The shadow on your chin
